Some cool facts about biker fashion.
The clothes of choice for a biker or are trucker are as iconic as the bike they ride. It’s an unofficial uniform which symbolises rebellion and freedom. But did you know:
1. Irving Schott made the first leather jacket especially for motorcycling in New York in 1928. Named the Perfecto it gained legendary status when Marlon Brando wore it in ‘Rebel Without a Cause.’
2. The Wad-Cotton motorbiking jacket was first made in England by J. Barbour & Sons in 1935. They wanted a jacket to protect bikers in Britain’s wet weather. It’s a favourite of famous bikers including Che Guevara, Steve McQueen, and Ewan McGregor.
3. In the 1960s Hells Angels created the motorcycle vest by removing the sleeves. This improved arm mobility and helped keep them cooler in the hot US sun.
4. Bikers love symbols and wear them sewn on jackets or emblazoned on t-shirts. When it comes to biker symbols skulls kick ass. What does the skull symbol mean to you? Is it death, danger, mortality, immortality, rebellion, or that freedom you feel on the open road?
